The fascinating world of Peter Wohlleben

Magazine: Gruner + Jahr

09.07.2019 - The author of the bestseller "The Secret Life of Trees" has published a nature magazine together with the publishing house Gruner + Jahr and the GEO editorial team. The stories contain his concentrated knowledge of the plant and animal world. Wohlleben's World" was printed on recycled paper from Steinbeis: on the LWC paper "Steinbeis Charisma Silk".

HOW PETER WOHLLEBEN BECAME A NATURE EXPERT

Peter Wohlleben is a true nature lover. He loves to wander through forests and meadows, observing and exploring the flora and fauna. He developed an awareness of and interest in nature not as an adult, but as a child: at the age of six, he was already convinced that being a conservationist was the right career for him. As it turned out later, this was a pretty realistic self-assessment.

After completing a degree in forestry, Peter Wohlleben took over responsibility for his own hunting ground in the Eifel - complete with an old forester's lodge and a large plot of land. This is where his professional journey began, which over the years has always been linked to the forest on his doorstep - and still is today. Even if his job description changed somewhat in the course of his professional development. The piece of nature on his doorstep, for example, convinced him to swap conventional forestry for sustainable forestry. Forest workers and horses instead of harvesting machines, native deciduous trees instead of spruces and pines and the banning of chemicals. The forest thanked him. And Peter Wohlleben was able to expand his immense knowledge of nature and its inhabitants through this development process.

HE LIKES TO SHARE HIS KNOWLEDGE WITH OTHER NATURE LOVERS

He likes to pass on his knowledge to people. That has always been the case. He always finds the right and, above all, understandable words. Peter Wohlleben has the gift of making complex processes or highly scientific topics tangible for everyone. He deciphers the secrets of nature in his very own narrative style. The success of his book "The Secret Life of Trees", which was on the bestseller lists at home and abroad, confirms that he has struck a chord with our times. it was one of the best-selling non-fiction books in 2015 and 2016. He also demonstrated his expertise and enthusiasm for nature at Steinbeis during a guest lecture for the Pro Recycling Paper initiative. And he pleaded in favour of more recycled paper. THE NATURE MAGAZINE "WOHLLEBENS WELT" SHOWS NEW PERSPECTIVES

The purest way to immerse yourself in the world of Peter Wohlleben is and remains an educational walk with him through his forest. Anyone looking for a worthwhile alternative has been getting it from Gruner + Jahr since Easter this year. Together with the GEO editorial team, Peter Wohlleben has developed a nature magazine that clearly bears his signature. And it is peppered with his knowledge, which he incorporates into the articles he writes or passes on to the editorial team. In this way, the magazine makers hope to convey a new perspective on nature. In the current issue of "Wohlleben's World", readers can find out, for example, why animal children get up to mischief, what we can do for bees, where vitamins grow by the wayside and why a ladybird has spots. And Wohlleben takes the reader into his territory for a day. Into the forest where his story as a successful author began and which is still managed as carefully and sustainably as possible today.
