31.08.2018 - The Focus Money brand "Deutschland Test" and the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI) have evaluated over 600 companies - Steinbeis is one of the most valuable paper manufacturers.
Steinbeis Papier is one of Germany's most valuable companies. The medium-sized company from Glückstadt in Schleswig-Holstein was awarded the "Germany's Most Valuable Companies" seal by Deutschland Test, a brand of Focus-Money. In the "Industry" category, Steinbeis Papier is the most valuable "paper company" with a score of 75.0, placing it ahead of the international paper group UPM Group and car manufacturer Daimler AG in the ranking.
The "Social Value" criteria of the study
In collaboration with the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI), Deutschland Test evaluated and analysed the social value of 652 commercial, industrial and service companies. The seal recognises companies for their ecological, economic and social responsibility ("Social Value"). Since 2017, large listed companies with more than 500 employees have been subject to the EU CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) reporting obligation. Deutschland Test and HWWI conducted the study on the basis of these sustainability reports or a written statement on the topic of social and environmental commitment. In the area of "ecological responsibility", emissions and resource intensity, recycling and control of the supply chain were analysed. In the "economic responsibility" category, the focus was on innovative capacity, economic performance and corporate governance, while in the "social responsibility" category it was on occupational safety, health protection and the quality of employment relationships, among other things.
Sustainability, the Steinbeis business model
Today, businesses are expected to contribute added value to society by helping to overcome ecological, social and economic challenges. Steinbeis Papier initiated the "ecological" turnaround back in the 1970s and developed its production site into one of the most modern ecologically integrated recycled paper mills in Europe. Here, the company produces around 300,000 tonnes of copy, magazine and digital printing paper from 100 percent waste paper every year. With its ecological savings in CO2 emissions, water and energy consumption and the protection of natural resources (wood), Steinbeis Papier is an industry leader.
