Steinbeis Papier GmbH is one of Germany's most valuable companies

28.08.2019 - For the second time, "Deutschland Test" and the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI) have rated 511 companies according to overall social aspects - and this year, Steinbeis is once again one of the most valuable representatives of the industry.

Steinbeis Papier has once again been recognised as one of Germany's most valuable companies. The medium-sized company from Glückstadt received the "Germany's Most Valuable Companies" seal for the second time in a row. In the "Paper, office supplies and stationery manufacturers" category, Steinbeis Papier is in second place this year with a score of 79.1.

The so-called "Social Value"

In collaboration with the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI), Deutschland Test evaluated and analysed the social value of 511 commercial, industrial and service companies. The seal recognises companies for their ecological, economic and social responsibility. For large listed companies with more than 500 employees, one thing has changed in 2017: They must fulfil the EU CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) reporting obligation and account for their added value for society. The study is conducted annually by Deutschland Test, a "Focus Money" brand, and the HWWI on the basis of these sustainability reports or a written statement on the topic of social and environmental commitment. Various areas are analysed for this: in the "ecological responsibility" category, these include_{CO2 emissions}, energy intensity, recycling and the control of the supply chain from an ecological perspective. In the "economic responsibility" category, it is the ability to innovate, economic performance and corporate governance, and in the "social responsibility" category, gender pay gap, health protection and product safety, among other things. This year, the topicality and scope of the sustainability reports were included in the assessment for the first time.

Sustainability, the Steinbeis business model

Today, businesses are expected to add value to society by helping to overcome ecological, social and economic challenges. Steinbeis Papier made this expectation its own claim in the 1970s and even then initiated the "ecological" turnaround and developed its production site into one of the most modern ecologically integrated recycled paper mills in Europe. Here, the company produces around 300,000 tonnes of copy, magazine and digital printing paper from 100 percent waste paper every year. With its ecological savings in_{CO2 emissions}, water and energy consumption and the protection of natural resources (wood), Steinbeis Papier continues to lead the industry.
