ChargeHolidays: Travelling with impact
Travelling sustainably? Sure, many people want to. But the path to truly environmentally friendly accommodation is often a rocky one - between a confusion of seals, vague promises and a lack of guidance. ChargeHorizons GmbH wants to change this and is bringing fresh impetus to the industry with its travel platform ChargeHolidays. The app makes sustainable booking easier, more transparent - and surprisingly entertaining. If you book today, you can travel more responsibly tomorrow.
Many people want to travel sustainably. But anyone who seriously tries to find environmentally friendly accommodation quickly comes up against limits: too many seals, too little comparability, too much uncertainty. This is precisely where ChargeHolidays, the travel platform from ChargeHorizons GmbH, comes in. The young company wants to ensure greater transparency in sustainable tourism - and simplify the booking process at the same time. The platform sees itself as an interface between travellers and accommodation that meets ecological and social standards. Instead of another label, ChargeHolidays aims to make information comparable and accessible. Users should be able to make informed decisions - without having to wade through a multitude of websites or certifications.
An idea with attitude: how frustration turned into a start-up
The founding idea came from Lilith Diringer, who has long been involved in sustainability and global tourism. As a traveller, she was annoyed by the lack of transparency on the booking market, and as a sustainability expert, she recognised the need for a user-friendly, credible solution. Together with a small team, she began developing a concept in 2019 that combines technological approaches with social responsibility. ChargeHorizons GmbH was founded in 2021 - after numerous interviews with hotel operators, tourism professionals and, of course, travellers. The discussions showed that the demand for sustainable options is there, but many offers remain difficult to find or are only superficially "green". The aim was therefore to provide well-founded information without losing the fun of travelling.
From Dreamcatcher to Travel Diary - features with an aha effect
In addition to a transparent search and comparison function, ChargeHolidays offers various additional functions: With the so-called Dreamcatcher, users can specifically search for accommodation that matches their sustainability criteria - such as vegan catering, ecological construction or local social projects. The booking process itself is also deliberately designed differently: Profiles, feedback systems and a digital travel diary promote dialogue within the community. This creates a platform that not only provides information, but also shares knowledge and enables further development - for travellers and hosts alike. The social sustainability dimension is not neglected either: transparent information on accessibility, for example, makes it easier for people with disabilities to find suitable accommodation and book their trip independently. ChargeHolidays can be used according to individual preference via the app or a desktop version - for maximum flexibility in travel planning.
Backpack meets responsibility: check CO₂, make an impact
Another focus is on reducing and assessing emissions. An integrated CO₂ calculator - developed in cooperation with myclimate - allows travellers to determine the emissions they cause. Because travelling can never be completely emission-free, there is the option of making a climate contribution to support projects - for example in the areas of renewable energy or reforestation. In addition, social cashback allows travellers to invest travel points in projects such as biodiversity promotion or educational initiatives. The principle behind this: Sustainable travel should not only be supported through individual behavioural change, but also through structural promotion. ChargeHorizons works together with various organisations and initiatives to achieve this.
ChargeHolidays wants to help make sustainable travelling easier and more attractive - for everyone involved. In addition to the continuous expansion of the platform, the team also focuses onEducational workworkshops, collaborations with universities and coaching for accommodation providers are intended to impart knowledge and encourage people to get involved. Whether the concept establishes itself in the long term depends not least on the extent to which it succeeds in making sustainable alternatives suitable for the masses - without concealing the complexity behind it. ChargeHorizons provides an interesting starting point for this: technology-supported, user-centred and with a clear social claim.
